Keeping your hair, face, and body clean is essential to looking and feeling your best. If your skin is rough, dry, flakey, or dirty, it will affect not just your appearance but also your confidence level.
A lot of attention is given to face care, but what about your body? Washing with soap and water only gets you so far. If you really want smooth, fresh, youthful skin all over, you need to incorporate body scrub into your regular grooming routine.
Why use body scrub? What is body scrub in the first place? And what benefits does it offer for your skin?
What Is Body Scrub?
Body scrub is a skincare product that both cleanses and exfoliates your skin. It's designed to be used all over your body - just not your face. Body scrub combines cleansing agents with scrubbing ingredients that remove dirt, oil, bacteria, dead skin, and other skin debris.
Body scrub usually has the consistency of a rough paste, not a gel or liquid like body wash. Its thicker, rougher consistency is due to its exfoliating ingredients.
Best Body Scrub Ingredients
Our Polishing Body Scrub is designed to give you powerful exfoliation without the irritation of harsh chemicals or rough scrubbing particles. Instead, it's made with these natural ingredients:
- Walnut Powder: Exfoliates, removing dead skin, dirt, ingrown hairs, and odor-causing body oils
- Glycolic Acid: A naturally skin-safe alpha hydroxy acid that exfoliates and smooths the skin
- Willow Bark Extract: Penetrates and removes the top layer of dead cells on your skin for a brighter complexion.
- Oatstraw: Soothes inflammation, relieves irritation, and fights free radicals
- Aloe Vera: A safe, natural source of moisture, vitamins, and nutrients that keeps your skin full and healthy
What Does Body Scrub Do?
Body scrub exfoliates your skin, removing the topmost layer of dead skin cells. This brightens your complexion and smooths your skin's texture. It also deep cleans your pores and gets rid of dirt, bacteria, and oily buildup that can clog them and lead to blemishes.
How to Use Body Scrub
To use body scrub, start by rinsing off in the shower with warm water. This will prepare your skin for the best results.
Apply a small amount of body scrub to your hand, loofah, brush, or washcloth. Gently massage it onto your skin using a circular motion. You don't need to rub at your skin aggressively; your body scrub's ingredients will do the exfoliating for you. Trying to grind the scrub into your skin will only result in irritation and redness, so don't do it. This applies whether you're using your hands or a tool.
Rinse off your skin when you're done. Again, be gentle when rinsing and use warm water, not hot or near-scalding. Those are hard on your skin and can cause dehydration and irritation.
To ensure that your skin gets plenty of moisture, apply our Deep Moisture Body Lotion after you've dried off. It's a great follow up to exfoliation, with shea butter, vitamin E, and jojoba to repair and protect your skin.
Can I Use Body Scrub on My Face?
Body scrub is designed for the rougher skin of your body, not the thin and sensitive skin of your face. So it's best to use a product designed specifically for your face - like our Renewing Face Scrub - if you want to exfoliate that area.
How Often Should I Use Body Scrub?
For the best results, use our Polishing Body Scrub to exfoliate your skin 2-3 times each week - about every other day. If you have dry or sensitive skin, once a week may be all you need. Guys with oily skin can get better results by exfoliating more often.
Every man is different, so adjust how often you use body scrub based on how your skin reacts. If you start to notice redness, dryness, flaking, or others signs of irritation, reduce how often you use it.
Body Scrub vs. Body Wash
On the days you're not exfoliating, use a gentle natural cleanser like our Invigorating Body Wash. It gets rid of surface level oil and dirt - which is all you need most days. Save the Polishing Body Scrub for every other day or less. This will save your skin from getting irritated and keep you looking and feeling your best.
On the days that you use body scrub, you can opt to first use body wash or skip it entirely. It all depends on what feels best for your skin.
